There is nothing in a caterpillar
that tells you it’s going to be a butterfly.
You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
And the day came when
the risk to remain tight in the bud
was more painful than
the risk it took to blossom.
Change is good, but dollars are better.
Nothing endures but change.
Change only takes place through action,
not through meditation and prayer.
We cannot change anything
until we accept it.
Condemnation does not liberate,
it oppresses.
The most powerful thing
you can do to change the world
is to change your own beliefs
about the nature of life, people, reality…
and begin to act accordingly.
What I said never changed anyone.
What they understood did.
It takes a lot of courage to release
the familiar and seemingly secure,
to embrace the new.
But there is no real security
in what is no longer meaningful.
There is more security
in the adventurous and exciting,
for in movement there is life,
and in change there is power.
Things do not change, we change.
There is little sense in attempting
to change external conditions.
You must first change inner beliefs,
then outer conditions will change accordingly.
Never doubt that a small group
of thoughtful, committed citizens
can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
The first step toward change
is acceptance.
Once you accept yourself,
you open the door to change.
That’s all you have to do.
Change is not something you do,
it’s something you allow.
What the caterpillar calls the end of the world,
the master calls a butterfly.
If we don’t change our direction
we’re likely to end up where we’re headed.
The important thing is this:
To be able at any moment
to sacrifice what we are
for what we could become.
Whenever you find
that you are on the side of the majority,
it is time to reform.
When you blame others,
you give up your power to change.
This one step
— choosing a goal and sticking to it —
changes everything.
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
The main dangers in this life
are the people who want to change everything
— or nothing.
If we don’t change, we don’t grow.
If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living.
It’s not so much that we’re afraid of change
or so in love with the old ways,
but it’s that place in between that we fear….
It’s like being between trapezes.
It’s Linus when his blanket is in the dryer.
There’s nothing to hold on to.
I wanted to change the world.
But I have found that the only thing
one can be sure of changing is oneself.
If there is anything we wish to change in the child,
we should first examine it and see
whether it is not something
that could better be changed in ourselves.
If you don’t like something, change it.
If you can’t change it, change your attitude.
Don’t complain.
Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers.
The round heads in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They’re not fond of rules,
and they have no respect for the status-quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them,
glorify, or vilify them.
But the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They push the human race forward.
And while some may see them
as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough
to think they can change the world,
are the ones who do.
The Secret of change
is to focus all of your energy
not on fighting the old,
but on building the new.
