When nothing seems to help,
I go look at a stonecutter
hammering away at a rock
perhaps a hundred times
without as much as a crack showing in it.
Yet at the hundredth blow
it will split in two,
and I know it was not that blow that did it,
but all that had gone before.
Don’t think.
Thinking is the enemy of creativity.
It’s self-conscious,
and anything self-conscious is lousy.
You can’t try to do things.
You simply must do things.
The best way to have a good idea
is to have lots of ideas.
Creativity is the power to connect
the seemingly unconnected.
Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes.
Art is knowing which ones to keep.
The best way to predict your future
is to create it!
There are people who make things happen,
those who watch what happens,
and those who wonder what happened.
Hell, there are no rules here…
we’re trying to accomplish something!
The great French Marshall Lyautey
once asked his gardener to plant a tree.
The gardener objected
that the tree was slow-growing
and would not reach maturity for 100 years.
The Marshall replied,
“In that case, there is no time to lose.
Plant it this afternoon!”
The loftier the building,
the deeper must the foundation be laid.
Crayons can take you to more places than a starship.
Most of the important things in the world
have been accomplished by people
who have kept on trying
when there seemed to be no hope at all.
The future is not something we enter.
The future is something we create.
