All you have shall some day be given;
Therefore give now, that the season of giving
may be yours and not your inheritors.
Each of us has a spark of life inside us,
and our highest endeavor ought to be
to set off that spark in one another.
From what we get, we can make a living;
what we give, however, makes a life.
Thousands of candles
can be lighted from a single candle,
and the life of the candle will not be shortened.
Happiness never decreases by being shared.
The service you do for others
is the rent you pay
for the time you spend on earth.
If you can’t return a favor, pass it on.
We are rich only through what we give,
and poor only through what we refuse.
The greatest good you can do for another
is not just share your riches,
but reveal to them their own.
Too often we underestimate the power
of a touch, a smile, a kind word,
a listening ear, an honest compliment,
or the smallest act of caring,
all of which have the potential
to turn a life around.
By the accident of fortune
a man may rule the world for a time,
but by virtue of love and kindness
he may rule the world forever.
No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted.
You cannot do a kindness too soon
because you never know
how soon it will be too late.
You give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.
It is one of the most beautiful
compensations of this life
that no man can sincerely try
to help another without helping himself.
Never look down on anybody
unless you’re helping him up.
You are not here merely to make a living.
You are here in order to enable the world
to live more amply, with greater vision,
with a finer spirit of hope and achievement.
You are here to enrich the world,
and you impoverish yourself
if you forget the errand.
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers
for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
If there be any truer measure of a man
than by what he does,
it must be by what he gives.
You can have everything in life you want
if you’ll just help enough other people
to get what they want!
If you can’t feed a hundred people,
then feed just one.
In the long run, we get no more
than we have been willing to risk giving.
Those who bring sunshine
to the lives of others
cannot keep it from themselves.
If instead of a gem, or even a flower,
we should cast the gift of a loving thought
into the heart of a friend,
that would be giving as the angels give.
A man has made at least a start
on discovering the meaning of human life
when he plants shade trees
under which he knows full well he will never sit.
How far you go in life depends
on you being tender with the young,
compassionate with the aged,
sympathetic with the striving
and tolerant of the weak and the strong.
Because someday in life
you will have been all of these.
There are only two ways of spreading light:
to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.
How far that little candle throws his beams!
So shines a good deed in a weary world.
I don’t know what your destiny will be,
but one thing I do know:
the only ones among you
who will be really happy
are those who have sought
and found how to serve.
Give to the world the best you have,
and the best will come back to you.
We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled.
The trick is knowing how to tip ourselves over
and let the Beautiful Stuff out.
Kindness in words creates confidence.
Kindness in thinking creates profoundness.
Kindness in giving creates love.
The best way to cheer yourself
is to try to cheer someone else up.
There is no beautifier of complexion, or form,
like the wish to scatter joy and not pain around us.
We make a living by what we get,
but we make a life by what we give.
It is possible to give without loving,
but it is impossible to love without giving.
He who plants kindness gathers love.
The really great man is the man
who makes every man feel great.
When it’s all over, it’s not who you were…
it’s whether you made a difference.
What we do for ourselves dies with us.
What we do for others and the world
remains and is immortal.
You begin saving the world
by saving one person at a time;
all else is grandiose romanticism or politics.
Immortality lies not in the things you leave behind,
but in the people your life has touched.
If you do a good job for others,
you heal yourself at the same time,
because a dose of joy is a spiritual cure.
Joy increases as you give it,
and diminishes as you try to keep it for yourself.
In giving it, you will accumulate a deposit of joy
greater than you ever believed possible.
He helps others most,
who shows them how to help themselves.
You can give a man a fish
and feed him for a day,
or teach him how to fish
and feed him for a lifetime.
People are unreasonable,
illogical and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good,
people will accuse you of selfish,
ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful,
you will win false friends
and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today
will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness
make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest person
with the biggest ideas
can be shot down
by the smallest person
with the smallest mind.
Think big anyway.
What you spend years building
may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.
People really need help
but may attack if you help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have
and you might get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.
Blessed are those who can give
without remembering
and take without forgetting.
